Ruchita Madhok

A Mumbai-based practitioner, Ruchita Madhok is inspired by the poetry of everyday life. Through the mediums of cyanotype printmaking and drawing she explores the conversations between nature, the cosmos and the inner self. An award-winning communication designer, Ruchita brings a passion for print, photography and illustration to her artistic practice as she plays with words and images to create works of art, books and zines.


ARTISTIC JOURNEY
Since 2021 Ruchita has centered her art practice in the mediums of historical photographic processes, painting and drawing.

Ruchita has participated in several group exhibitions, including Filters of Time and Derivation curated by Nikhil Purohit at Kamalnayan Bajaj Art Gallery, Mumbai (2026); Edge of Space curated by Saloni Doshi at Space 118 Foundation, Mumbai (2025); The Director’s Cut by Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair (2025); Imprinting Justice curated by Saad Ghosn at Kamalanayan Bajaj Art Gallery, Mumbai (2025); Open Call at Apre Art House, Mumbai (2023) and World Cyanotype Day curated by Chennai Photo Biennale at Alliance Francaise, Chennai (2023, 2022).

In 2025 she was selected for the Akara Artist Mentorship Programme. In 2024 is she was awarded the Spacehouse Artist Residency in Uttarakhand. She has previously received the Arthink Southasia Fellowship (2013), the UnBox Fellowship (2012) and the Inteatro Residency in Polverigi, Italy (2010).

DESIGN CAREER
Ruchita Madhok received her M.A. in Scenography from Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design, University of the Arts, London and a B.Des. in Communication Design from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad.

She is the Founder of communication design practice Kahani. She is also the publisher of Storycity guides to Mumbai’s heritage and culture. Her work has been featured in numerous publications including Kyoorius, Architectural Digest, Domus India, Vogue, Elle Decor, Platform, Verve and IQ. She is the recipient of the Kyoorius Black Elephant, the CII Design Excellence Award and India’s Best Design Project Awards.

WRITING
In addition to authoring several
Storycity books and guides on Mumbai's creative heritage, Ruchita also writes short form poetry in English. Her works have appeared in respected international journals and online publications.
